Victoria Callinan is an interdisciplinary performance/installation artist and recent MFA graduate of Edinburgh College of Art. Born alongside the launch of web 2.0, Victoria is a self-confessed child of the internet. By extension, her work is particularly influenced by social media culture, memes, and the parodic version of ‘self’ that exists exclusively online. The artist’s work responds to the millennial human condition which she studies through assuming the personas of alternative characters and through the construction of worlds for these figures to exist within. Victoria manipulates her image through makeup, costume and gesture to suppose surrogate identities which reflect a turbulent yet fluid relationship to the sense of selfhood, typical of her generation.
