Hello readers,

At SCL CVN we live for the drama, and today, we bring unexpected, exciting (and rather dramatic) news!!

First, we are THRILLED to announce our first curated season of creative work. Spanning theatre, drag, live music and more, this new creative endeavour will bring cutting-edge and ground-breaking art to a wide range of spaces and audiences across Newham Borough. As we are undergoing a series of new exciting developments and transforming the way we work, we thought it’s only fitting to call this new season ‘In Transition.’

We have a STUNNING line up of work responding to our theme. In this season we challenge you to embrace the beauty that comes from change, explore the turbulence of transformations and be curious in the artistic process. As the world around us continues to evolve, old certainties no longer feel certain and the new ones have not emerged yet. We see this as an opportunity to remake the status quo and have programmed work that celebrates fluidity, doesn’t conform to labels and genre categorisation and dares to imagine different, new worlds.

We are very proud of everything we have achieved in our home in Canning Town over the past 18 months. We delivered on our mission of supporting artists and community events and planted our roots firmly in the Newham community. To expand our capacity to deliver on our mission we started the process of securing a space that is better suited to what we want to achieve and decided to close our venue in Canning Town. It isn’t just us who are in a transitional phase of work! Our Last operating day is 31st January. This is not the end of our venue journey, just a temporary transition to brighter future plans.

We are still VERY open to helping anyone bring an idea to life, and we are SO excited to bring you In Transition from March.

THEATRE: ‘Springboard Festival’

Springboard Festival, a festival of new work coming to Applecart in Spring 2024

Featuring incredible emerging artists, the festival will celebrate some of the best talent in the UK at the moment.

Music: ‘Freedom’ Jordan Rakei

Propulsive new song ‘Freedom’ is out now – percussive, intense, and punchy, the gospel-soaked vocals give his songwriting a very direct, palpable sense of purpose.
